Rise Hall Wedding - Ria and Cavill

Rise Hall Wedding Photographer

A people led wedding at Rise Hall, East Yorkshire

Ria and Cavill’s wedding day brought together two of East Yorkshire’s most impressive settings, the historic Beverley Minster for their ceremony, followed by a celebration at Rise Hall. Both are undeniably grand, but what stood out most across the day wasn’t the scale or the architecture, it was the people, the energy and the way everyone made these spaces feel completely their own.

Our day began at Beverley Minster, where we arrived ahead of the ceremony to document guests arriving and the atmosphere building. The Minster is an incredible place, highly detailed, full of history and it was genuinely special to witness Ria and Cavill choose such a meaningful setting for their ceremony.

A ceremony at Beverley Minster

For church weddings, our approach is always calm and unobtrusive. We’re there to observe, anticipate and move discreetly, working within the guidelines of the vicar and the rhythm of the service itself. On this day, we were grateful to be allowed to photograph from the front for the entrances, Chris capturing those first moments as they happened, while Rachel documented Ria’s long walk through the Minster.

Once those key moments had passed, Chris quietly moved back, continuing to work from the wings and rear of the Minster, staying responsive without ever drawing attention. The architecture alone is awe-inspiring, but it was the emotion within the space that gave the ceremony its real weight.

Before the ceremony, Ria and her bridesmaids arrived in a beautiful historic car, sharing a few calm, joyful moments together before heading inside. After the ceremony, the feeling remained unforced and natural guests spilling out, hugs being shared, conversations flowing. We used this time to capture a handful of smaller family group photos that were important to Ria and Cavill, keeping everything relaxed and easy.

Before heading to Rise Hall, we took a short walk back through the Minster with the couple. Just a few minutes of breathing space, a chance for it all to sink in and a few portraits in a place that had already become part of their story.

A celebration at Rise Hall

Rise Hall was the setting for the reception and it’s a venue we know well and always love returning to. It was great to be back and to work again alongside Kim, whose calm and thoughtful coordination makes the whole day flow effortlessly.

What we loved most was how Ria and Cavill’s families made the space their own. Some guests relaxed in the library, others enjoyed drinks outside in the June sunshine, while a very competitive game of croquet unfolded on the lawn (rules still unclear, commitment unquestionable).

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, the couple chose to cut their cake beneath Rise Hall’s grand staircase. Guests gathered on the steps, turning it into a real moment something we hadn’t seen done quite like this before and a perfect example of making a venue work around people, not the other way around.

Golden light and a full dancefloor

As the evening rolled on the dancefloor quickly filled with DJ Mike McKay bringing his usual energy and keeping everyone moving. We stayed right in the middle of it, documenting the joy and shapes, to us these moments matter just as much as everything that came before.

Later, as the sun dipped lower, we stepped outside with Ria and Cavill for a few quiet minutes. A short walk, a chance to cool off from dancing and a handful of relaxed portraits before heading back into the party.

A day guided by people

Ria and Cavill’s wedding was a perfect example of how even the grandest venues can feel personal when the day is guided by the people at its heart. Whether we’re photographing an intimate gathering or a large celebration like this, our approach never changes we respond to the energy, the relationships and the moments as they naturally happen.

We don’t do this job for publication, we do it for the couples we work with. That said, we were genuinely honoured when Ria and Cavill’s photographs were later featured in Your Yorkshire Wedding magazine in September 2025 a lovely reflection of a day that felt every bit as special as it was.
